About a year ago, I saw a website where a builder included a picture of a DIY guitar vise built into their workbench. I think they used threaded wooden rods.

Now, I cannot relocate the site, if it still exists.

Anyone else see anything like this online?

Check out http://wellsguitars.com/Articles/Guitar_Holder.htm at Sylvan Wells' website. I built one like he uses and it works quite well.

I use the one from Sylvan's site also - in fact I use two of 'em! They work great, cost about $10 - $15 to make, and can be tucked out of the way when not in use.

Harry Fleishman has something similar to that, but he adds a bungee cord between the two pipes that acts as a kind of safety net in case the guitar starts to fall between the pipes when it's not tightened in the vise.

Somewhere and I cant remember, maybe an old GAL journal, I saw a carpet lined box that got smaller as it got deeper, kind of like a squarish funnel attached to the end of a bench, anyways, you just drop the guitar body in it and it snug's down as you push it in, leaving about 1/2 of the body sticking out.
Another great jig for holding guitar bodies is Guitar Jigs Trojy, I think Bruce Dickey has one? Its been on my want list for some time.
Currently im using the vacuum holder that LMI sells and am very happy with it.

Here is mine - attached by a couple C clamps to the end of my vritas style bench - its there all the time now, I should just bolt it down. really simple, 2 pipe clamps, 2 2x6 of cedar radiused such that only the edges fo the guitar body are clamped, no presssure on the top or back. Cant be seen, but I added a blanket underneath to catch guitars not clamped firmly enough - has saved a couple. As well, thats my homemade binding ledge cutter attachment for the lam trimmer

Me too, like Sylvan's. Works very well with the binding jig that I use, modelled after Arnt Rian's somewhat like Tony's. I use 1/4" ply, which gives some flexibility, putting slight pressue on the top and back, but most around the edge, lined with carpet, with some green plastic light garden fence kind of stuff to catch anything that might fall through. Works great and cheap if you get the clamps from HF.

I made a vise with threaded wooden rods (which I made). I don't have any photos of it on hand, but I'll try to take some soon. It works well. It squeaks when you turn the handles.
